Most women have spent years settling for less in their bra shopping experience. You might visit a big-box store that offers a wide selection but lacks knowledgeable staff who can help you understand that the band you've worn for a decade is actually two sizes too big. Alternatively, you could go to a specialty shop that understands how to fit you properly but doesn’t carry many, if any, options in your size. This leaves you with the frustrating choice of which part of the problem you'd rather live with.
At Breakout Bras, you don't have to choose. Because of our larger online presence, we're considered too big to be a specialty bra store but too specialty to be a big-box retailer. That in-between space is precisely where the good stuff happens. We call it the hybrid advantage, and here’s what it means for you.
Too big for a boutique: the selection
Think of the difference between a dedicated running store and the shoe wall at a big sporting-goods chain. The running store fits you properly but stocks a fraction of what you might need. The big chain has walls of options and no one to help. Most shops sit at one end or the other. We’ve built Breakout Bras to sit in the middle, with the depth of a large retailer and the knowledge of a small one.
That depth is real. We carry roughly 25 to 30 brands across our store and online, in a size range that runs from 26–56 bands and AA–T cups, plus dedicated mastectomy, nursing, and sports bra options and shapewear. That’s not a range you’ll find on a big-box wall, and it’s more than most boutiques can hold. It’s why we can fit the full-bust and plus-size customers, the petite-band customers, and the hard-to-find bra sizes that other stores can’t.
Carrying that range takes more than shelf space. It takes volume, and our combined in-store and multi-channel sales let us place forecasting orders for a season that’s still six to twelve months out. I’ll be honest. Committing to orders that far ahead is a little nerve-wracking. A lot can change between now and then: the economy, what customers are looking for, and what’s trending. But that volume is also what earns us a spot that most boutiques never get. Vendors treat us as a hybrid account, which means we’re often placing orders a month or more before trade shows, giving us early or exclusive access to new releases. I flew to New York back in March for early previews of the collections debuting this upcoming spring to provide my feedback and flag any fit concerns before production. The scale gets us in the room. The curation is still all about the fit.

Too specialty for big box: the fit
Selection is only half of it, and it’s the half everyone talks about. The part that actually started this business and still matters most to us is the fit.
We do true band-and-cup, sight-based professional bra fitting in the store. No tape measure. If you’ve ever been “measured” over your clothes with a tape and sent off with a number that felt nothing like your body, you already know why we don’t do it that way. A professional bra fitter reads what she sees: the shape of your back and ribcage, asymmetry, breast tissue distribution, how they fill the cups, and so much more. That’s how you get a bra that supports you instead of one that simply matches a measurement.
That same expertise shapes what we buy for the website, but with one honest caveat: what sells online is very different from what sells in the store. Online customers often haven’t had a proper bra fitting yet, so they’re far more likely to purchase the wrong size or style for them. Our best-selling sizes and styles online look almost nothing like our best-sellers in-store because they’re two genuinely different sets of customers. We buy for both on purpose.
Big-box stores will never provide the extensive range of sizes we offer, nor will they train their staff to fit customers the way we do. This represents the specialty aspect of our hybrid approach, and we're not willing to give it up.

What the hybrid advantage means for you
The real magic happens when you combine the two halves. Because of our online volume and the inventory that comes with it, the customer who walks into our store has access to a far larger selection than any traditional boutique could keep on hand. And the customers shopping online are choosing from an assortment curated by fitters who work with customers every day. You get the selection of a much larger retailer and the personal, knowledgeable service of a genuine specialty bra store, at the same time. That’s the whole idea.
Whether you’re local and want to come in for a fitting, or you’re shopping with us from across the country, our team is here to help you find your size and your style. Book a professional bra fitting with us, in person or virtually, and experience the difference that real selection and real expertise make.
